All of the following reading notes come from the textbook A Survival Guide to Social Media and Web 2.0 Optimization: Strategies, Tactics, and Tools for Succeeding in the Social Web by Deltina Hay.

Ch.7- Social Bookmarking and Crowd-Sourcing

  • Social bookmarking is a way for you to save your favorite blogs and Websites in a public space- the same way you might save them using you own Web browser
  • Delicious.com is one of the most popular social bookmarking sites– you can add bookmarks, search delicious.com, view comments, and see who else has bookmarked a site
  • The chapter then goes on to tell how to bookmark a site on Delicious.com (I already knew how to do this because I have an account with delicious.com)
  • Strategy to social bookmarking– get a good feel for the site, know the guidelines, fill out profile completely, create a list of your best key terms to use as tags, join groups that are relevant to your area of expertise or interest
  • Other social bookmarking sites- Technorati, StumbleUpon, Searchles
  • Crowd-sourcing are news sites that allow users to determine the popularity of a news story, blog entry, or Website through various types of voting or rating systems
  • Digg.com is a popular crowd-sourcing Web site
  • Other crowd sourcing sites are: Reddit, Mixx, Gabbr
