TOW Week 8- Podcasting March 9, 2010

For this topic of the week I am going to discuss podcasting.

Podcasting is a fairly new concept to many people and companies. Dictionary describes a podcast as:

“a Web-based audio broadcast via an RSS feed, accessed by subscription over the Internet”

Today, more and more people are starting to use podcasts and listen to podcasts. Companies or organizations might want to use podcasts because people are starting to move towards listening to them more. In the age of social media, it is much easier and more accessible to listen to a podcast on your way to work, then to sit down and read a press release or a news article. I think companies would benefit from posting podcasts because there are so many people listening and it is a great way to achieve a presence in that world.

Public relations students, professionals, etc. would all benefit from listening to podcasts. There are thousands of podcasts to chose from and many of them give great information, tips, and knowledge. By listening to podcasts, it keeps people up to date in the PR world and will help them when they are communicating with other PR professionals because you will know what is going on.

Podcasts are becoming increasingly more popular by the day. With the amount of people listening to podcasts growing, as well as the amount of podcasts that are being recorded, it is important to try and be a part of that world. In PR, you have to be up to date on what is going on and podcasts are a great way to keep track of important information and stories.

    A podcast is a more personal form of a blog. Listeners get the same thing out of listening to a podcast that they would get from reading a blog. But the personal aspect does play a big part. I think companies should utilize podcasts because of the personal aspect. Customers want to feel like they matter and they want to feel like companies really do care about and value them. What better way to should customers you care than talking to them directly? That is exactly what a podcast can let companies do. Companies can engage with customers through a podcast. Customers will hear a voice rather than reading text and it shows them that a company cared enough to take the time to talk to “them.”
